A Prayer Treatment for Living Your Best Life
A five-step way to write your own individual prayers based on Ernest Holmes, Science of Mind practices.
Original watercolor painting by B. Littleton.
When I lived in Idyllwild, I studied with Rev. Betty Jandl, the work of Ernest Holmes, in Science of Mind. We wrote prayer treatments for are own meditations, and to share in services and celebrations. Lately, I’ve been sharing new prayer treatments at the Yucca Valley Center for Spiritual Living each Sunday.
Thank you Betty. You are still a gift.
There are five steps in the prayer. Here is one I shared today:
A Prayer Treatment for Living Your Best Life.
Recognition: God Is
There is One Life, one loving Presence moving through all that is. It is the creative movement within every beginning, every change, every unexpected opening.
This Presence is possibility. It is wisdom, creativity, abundance, and Love continually expressing itself through Life.
Unification: I Am
I am part of this creative Life.
Spirit moves through my imagination, my desires, my gifts, and even through the quiet restlessness that tells me something in my life is ready to change.
I do not have to know the entire path. I only need to become willing to listen.
There is something within me that knows when it is time to stay, when it is time to grow, and when it is time to begin again.
Realization: I Know
Today, I give myself permission to live more fully.
I release the belief that I must continue a path simply because I have traveled it for a long time. I honor what has brought me here, and I remain open to what wants to come next.
I listen for what gives me energy. I notice what awakens my curiosity, creativity, and joy. I pay attention to the ideas that keep returning and the possibilities that make something within me come alive.
I trust that my creativity has purpose.
I trust that abundance can arrive through new ideas, new relationships, new work, and new ways of expressing who I am becoming.
I do not have to force the future. I become available to it.
One choice, one conversation, one courageous yes can change the direction of a life.
Thanksgiving: Gratitude
I am grateful for the life that has brought me here and for the life still waiting to be lived through me.
I give thanks for my imagination, my experience, my gifts, and the wisdom to recognize when Spirit is asking me to grow.
I am grateful that it is never too late to choose again.
Release: Let Go and Let God
I release the need to know exactly where the path leads.
I release old definitions of success, purpose, and who I am supposed to be.
I listen. I trust. I take the next step.
And so it is.
